This is big stuff! If you’re not already convinced you should pay attention to Facebook and consider a strategy for using Facebook for your  business, this is a wake up call.  Facebook recently surpassed Google as the most visited website, and has taken over the top organic search queries in all three major search engines for the four weeks ending March 27.

Here are the eye-opening stats:

HitWise reports that Facebook.com  got the most U.S. visits for the week of March 13, 2010, continuing a trend of steadily climbing traffic.  “The market share of visits to Facebook.com increased 185% last week as compared to the same week in 2009, while visits to Google.com increased 9% during the same time frame. Together Facebook.com and Google.com accounted for 14% of all US Internet visits last week.” –HitWise blog

In addition, HitWise reports that “Facebook was the top U.S. search conducted in the four weeks ending March 27, 2010. Overall, Facebook-related terms accounted for eight searches across the three top 10 lists.”

This would be a good time to re-examine your social media strategy and review your priorities. Facebook may overtake your other off-site social media priorities.  One word of advice:   Please don’t neglect your own blog and article content in your zeal for Facebook!
