Yesterday Connecticut took one step closer to having an Internet Tax as Bill SB 5481 passed its first legislative hurdle. Bills like SB 5481 require Advertisers to charge customers a sales tax if they have affiliates in a certain state, in this case Connecticut.

Affiliate marketers in Connecticut are working hard to reverse the course of this bill. The map below represents zip codes where LinkShare affiliates reside, and people who could be impacted by bills like this one.

Find some more information on the process on the Affiliate Advocacy blog.   There’s some more info on the PMA website.  If you’re a Connecticut affiliate you can register your support here.

Connecticut did not pass this bill. Though it did go through committee. Affiliate taxation will never stand up in court, but internet sales will be taxed.
