California Affiliate Tax Revived
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that California is a hotbed for small Internet businesses. We posted this map earlier this year, which shows where LinkShare affiliates reside in the state.

Rebecca Madison from the Performance Marketing Alliance sent us the below note about the inclusion of the affiliate nexus bill into the budget bill in California:
In a last desperate effort to find some sort of budget relief, legislators in California have revived several bills in hopes of finding money for the state. The previously defeated AB 178, the nexus bill, is being included in the budget bill. This could be presented to the governor for approval as early as next week. Therefore, we would like to engage your affiliates as soon as possible, in sending emails to some influential senators.
Your urgent help with sending this message and letter template to your California affiliates is greatly appreciated.
There’s also some information on the 5 Star Affiliate Programs blog.
The map above represents small businesses that partner with advertisers using the affiliate model, and could potentially be hurt by bills like these.

Too much affliate taxing will ultimately discourage individuals to step in computing businesses. So Government should take adequate measures.
